Knox volleyball captain lives up to expectations
The success of Knox senior girls' volleyballers this season has been down to the performance of two main players - Treviann Taylor and captain Tashari Gordon.
Having fallen short last season, Gordon said the expectation was to reclaim their rural area title, and the Knox attacker, who was given the task of leading them this season, thought she lived up to expectations and led them to success.
"I think I've done what was expected," she told STAR Sports after their 3-0 win over Manning's School in the rural final at G.C. Foster College last week. "We wanted to reclaim our title, and each player played their role, and it is a wonderful feeling knowing we could regain the title."
She pointed out that her improvement from last season has been quite noticeable, and, with the national final coming up on Monday against Wolmer's Girls' School, the Knox captain is expecting her usual high standards and more silverware.
"This season, I have improved a lot. My attacks weren't strong last season, but this season I have done much better. Right now, my confidence is 90 out of 100. The season has been positive, and my teammates Treviann Taylor and Hadijah Wallace have been a big part of my growth in the sport.
"I am looking forward to getting more trophies this season. I believe we can take it," she said.
Gordon, who wants to be a role model for her peers at school, said playing volleyball after school is high on her agenda, and she is hoping she can get a scholarship to help take her career to the next level.
"I want to be a role model for the younger ones coming up. That has been very important to me.
"I am looking to play volleyball after high school. So, any university I attend, I will continue for certain. I am hoping for a scholarship, whether local or overseas. I have been working very hard on it, so I am hoping to get one," she said.
