Waterhouse’s Elvis Wilson falls to the ground following a challenge from Cavalier Soccer Club’s Shaquille Stein during the Jamaica Premier League football match against Waterhouse at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday. Cavalier won 2-0.

Rudolph Speid, head coach of Cavalier Soccer Club, says they are right where they want to be after his team moved to the top of the Jamaica Premier League with a 2-0 win over 10-man Waterhouse at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Jalmaro Calvin fired the champions in front after 12 minutes, and three minutes after goalkeeper Kemar Foster was shown the red card in the 32nd minute, Dwayne Atkinson fired in the second goal of the game.

The win put Cavalier on seven points, one ahead of Harbour View, who had defeated Molynes 2-1 earlier in the day.

"It is good result. Last year this time we were 10th in the league. But this is a good feeling, this keeps us on top. So we are right where we want to be," Speid commented.

"We knew it would be a tough game but we tried to make it as hard as possible for our opponents. We were already leading (red card), but Kemar Foster is one of the best goalkeepers in the business, so that eased the pressure on us."

Cavalier dominated the early stage of the game and Calvin had the first real chance but he dragged his shot wide of the target.

Waterhouse's day was made worse in the 32nd minute after a miscalculated back pass from Nickoy Christian forced Foster to commit a last ditch foul tackle, for which he was red-carded.

Although disappointed with the result, Waterhouse's coach Marcel Gayle praised the effort of his players.

"Definitely not the result (we wanted), but we take heart from the game, especially in the second half I thought we defended stoutly.

"Cavalier is a seasoned team. We should have shown more respect but I thought we learned our lesson and (in the) second half we came out and did our due diligence. With a little more luck we probably could have gotten a point," he said.
