LA Galaxy send Mount Pleasant packing - Concacaf Champions Cup round of 16
Mount Pleasant Football Academy were eliminated from the Concacaf Champions Cup last night at the National Stadium as they were defeated 3-0 by LA Galaxy in the second leg, for an 6-0 defeat on aggregate at the round of 16.
Under rainy skies, Joao Klauss (18th minute) and Gabriel Pec (61st, 87th) scored to hand LA Galaxy a comprehensive win.
It was a fairly even first half as both teams had their periods of possession and fair share of opportunities.
LA Galaxy were the more clinical of the two, however, as they opened the scoring in the first 20 minutes.
Left free in the box, Klauss was quick to react and headed home a corner delivery from close range.
Pec, who scored a hat-trick in the first leg, continued to be a nuisance as he sprinted between two Mount Pleasant defenders to let fly a low effort that needed two attempts from goalkeeper Shaquan Davis to smother.
BEST OPENING
Mount Pleasant had their best opening when Alex Marshall won a free kick just outside the box, but his resulting effort went straight into LA Galaxy's defensive wall.
The St Ann-based team got another opportunity, but Warner Brown's header flashed wide of the mark.
LA Galaxy put to an end to Mount Pleasant's growing momentum as in a show of brilliance, Pec sped past two of his markers to finish comfortably past the goalkeeper.
Pec completed the rout when he was fastest to react in the box and finished into an empty net. The speedy winger capitalised on an initial shot from Miller that was parried by goalkeeper Shaquan Davis.
