Thief who targeted Digicel sentenced to 18 months
A Digicel theft spree has ended behind prison walls for a young man who admitted to ripping batteries and cables from the telecommunications provider's facilities.
Twenty-seven-year-old Erick Robinson was sentenced to 18 months at hard labour after pleading guilty to stealing batteries and cables belonging to Digicel.
Robinson appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court on Wednesday, where he faced charges of malicious destruction of property, simple larceny, and trespassing on the works of a telecommunications facility.
Acting Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle handed down the sentence.
In delivering the ruling, the judge noted that Robinson was not eligible for the up-to-50 per cent discount on sentencing because of a previous conviction.
He was sentenced to 18 months on each count, with the terms to run concurrently.
Police arrested Robinson after Digicel reported the theft of batteries and cables in June.
