Big names fall short in boys 200m Semifinals
Several standout sprinters were left stunned after failing to advance to the finals of the boys 200m at the National Stadium earlier this afternoon, turning the semifinal round into a shock-filled affair.
In Class One, Hydel's Junior Gallimore, Edwin Allen's Romario Finnigan, and Holmwood Technical's Jaydon Collins all missed out on spots in the final eight.
Gallimore pulled up injured in semifinal two and recorded a "Did Not Finish," ending his campaign abruptly. Collins' time of 21.87 wasn't enough to claim an automatic qualifying spot, nor did it meet the non-automatic cutoff of 21.15.
Finnigan, who has dazzled this season in the 100m, couldn't replicate that magic in the half-lap event, finishing with a time of 21.36.
Class Two saw more surprises. Jamaica College's 100m champion Kai Kelly fell short, placing third in semifinal three with a time of 22.04, outside the non-automatic qualifying spots. St Jago's Jevaney Findlay was also eliminated, crossing fifth in semifinal two at 21.84.
With these shocks shaking up the lineup, the finals are set to kick off at 2:54 p.m. tomorrow, promising a thrilling conclusion to the boys 200m event as fresh faces look to seize their moment on the final day of competition.
