Three police officers sprang into action early Saturday morning, helping a St Thomas woman safely deliver her baby after she went into labour at her home in Bull Bay.

According to the police, the officers responded to an emergency 911 call from the expectant mother, who was seeking urgent help after labour began.

On arrival, Corporal A. Wellington and Constables S. Shaw and O. Dawkins quickly assessed the situation and realised that immediate medical attention was needed.

While arrangements were being made to transport the woman to the Princess Margaret Hospital, the officers provided critical support, helping her remain calm and ensuring she was positioned safely and comfortably.

Police said emergency procedures were followed to maintain a clean and safe environment, with continuous checks carried out on both mother and child.

Through the officers' coordinated and decisive actions, the baby was safely delivered before the mother reached the hospital.

"Both the mother and her newborn were reported to be stable upon reaching the Princess Margaret Hospital, where medical staff assumed care," the police said in a post on social media.

"The incident highlights the dedication and professionalism of the responding officers, demonstrating that the role of the police extends beyond law enforcement to include compassion, service and the preservation of life in critical moments," the statement added.
