Dear Pastor,

When I was 18, I had sex with two of my cousins.

I came to Kingston to spend a holiday with my father’s side of the family. I got into Kingston late, so my cousin told me that she had made arrangements to go out with her boyfriend and she could not take me where they were going. Two of her brothers told her that they would stay with me. So they went out and bought me food. After I ate and used the bathroom, I went to sleep.

While I was sleeping, one of them woke me up and said that it was the eve of the holiday, so I shouldn’t go to bed so early. I told him I was tired. I asked him for his brother and he said he went on the road to come back. He told me that I was looking nice and he started to play with my breasts. I told him I had a boyfriend and he said that was no big thing. I asked him what his brother would say if he should come in and see us and he said he wouldn’t say anything.

Well, after a long time, I agreed to have sex with him. It seems to me that I had lost my mind, so I gave in and had sex with him. Just when he was finished, his brother came in and brought me ice cream and some other things people were selling on the road. He said that he brought them for me. He was there questioning me and finally asked if I had sex with his brother; I told him yes. He said that meant that I should have sex with him too. I told him that we are cousins, so I should not have sex with them. He asked me if I ever heard that when cousins have sex it makes good soup, so we had sex. Neither of them used protection.

I could not go back to sleep. Their sister did not come back to the house until the following morning, and her boyfriend slept on the same bed with us. So it was my first experience sleeping on a bed with a man and his girlfriend and having sex with two cousins. On the holiday, her brothers did the cooking and it was like having a big feast. Both guys asked me if I enjoyed having sex with them and I told them no because I did not want them to force me to have sex again. I never said a word to their sister. Before I left Kingston, I told one of them “Suppose you got me pregnant?” He said that the child would be for his other brother because he did not discharge in me. Since then, I do not trust any of my cousins.

When I got back home, I could not look into my boyfriend’s face. He kept asking me what went wrong and why I was not talking to him. I am a very fortunate girl because I did not get pregnant. Whenever my female cousin talks to me on the phone, she is always inviting me back to Kingston. I always tell her that I will come back if my boyfriend allows me and she says that he has to because we are not married.

It is not a nice thing to remember whenever it’s coming on to that holiday, the time that I had sex with two men who are my cousins and they are brothers.

These young men perhaps saw that you were naïve, a country girl who just came to Kingston and trusted them.

You did not put up a fight and that is what you should have done. They sexually abused you and your female cousin should not have exposed you to her brothers that way. Perhaps she thought that they would have only kept your company.

I can only say that I am glad you did not get pregnant. Whatever happened, you cannot change, but it surely wasn’t a good lesson to learn.
